I’ve been a bit more selective about the product review opportunities I’ve agreed to recently, and most of them were directly beneficial to the little man of the house, TJ! Whenever I got a pitch that sounded interesting, I ran it past him. If he said, “Aww, yeah!” I went for it. Otherwise, I let it pass by. It worked out well enough that I’m able to make a pretty decent list of things that third grade boys like, since TJ is turning 8 in two weeks and starting third grade in September. (Some of the items have my affiliate links so you can buy them on Amazon.) If you have a third grade boy, let me know if our sons’ interests overlap!
Pokemon
Gotta catch ’em all. TJ’s Pokemon obsession has been going strong for over two years now. He loves playing his Pokemon games on his DS, and Pokemon toys make for hours of fun. As soon as his new Catch ‘n’ Return Pokeball and Pokémon 7” Articulated Figures arrived in the mail, he had them out and playing on the floor, catching Pokemon in the Pokeball and having his own battles. He supplied the sound effects.
Sharks
It’s Shark Week on Discovery, and to celebrate, they sent TJ a really awesome shark book, Sharkopedia: The Complete Guide to Everything Shark. It’s a nice, sturdy book with full-color photos of sharks. He huddled himself into a corner on the couch and flipped through the pages, reading aloud some cool facts about sharks that he thought were awesome enough to share with me. “Whoa! Whale sharks have the thickest skin in the world!” Three-and-a-half inches thick, for the curious.
Making Messes
Little boys do love to get messy. It can be a challenge to get them cleaned up. Thankfully, Puffs sent me a Puffs Fresh Faces care package (that’s a link for a free sample and coupon) filled with nose and face wipes that are make with natural saline, to be gentle on sensitive skin and noses. With allergies and messes in this house, they’re getting put to good use. They also sent me some extra swag (a headband I can use when I wash my face, a compact mirror for my purse, a pedometer, and a shoestring backpack that TJ stole right out of the box) just for fun. I don’t think I’ll be replacing my regular facial tissues with Fresh Faces or anything, but they are handy to have around.
Creamsicles
We can’t always keep Creamsicles in the freezer due to space limitations and such, but Yoplait Greek 100 sent me a handful of coupons to try some of their yogurt along with some recipes. I was quite fond of freezing the Key Lime yogurt and eating it as is out of the freezer, but TJ got a real kick out of the Yoplait FroYo Ice Orange Float. We didn’t freezer the yogurt in fun ice cube trays, instead taking the lazy way out and tossing the yogurt in the freezer for 20 minutes before scooping it into a glass of Diet Orange Sunkist, but TJ still said it was the best thing ever. (He says that every time he tries something new that he likes.)
What Else Do Third Grade Boys Like?
Of course, this isn’t an exhaustive list. Our third grader also loves Phineas and Ferb, Ben 10, PBS Kids, dinosaurs, volcanoes and other natural disasters, Plants Vs. Zombies, Minecraft, dinosaurs, reading, and so much more. What does your third grader like?
