Thirsty Floor Mat

Sometimes, a company contacts you for a product review, and you’re like, “What could I possibly use…?” When Karma Kiss wanted to set me up with their blog review and affiliate program – yes, that means I get commission from the links below – I was disappointed that the three items I said I’d like to review were not available for review. I got a list of reviewable items to choose from, and I said, “What the heck? Why not a bathmat?”

Why not, indeed!

If your family is like mine, you use some form of towel as a bathmat, something that gets wadded up on the bathroom floor after baths and showers and never really quite dries. So it stinks. And even after washing it, it still stinks.

Enter: My New Favorite  Cork Bathmat

Thirsty Floor Mat

Cork, you say? Yes. Cork. The Thirsty Cork Floor Mat has changed the way I look at bath mats forever. (Never letting a nasty, wet towel get wadded up on the floor again!)

The picture above is from when it first arrived and I hadn’t removed it from the packaging. The only real disappointment I’ve had with this is that the stickers that read “Thirsty Cork Floor Mat” are not stuck to the plastic wrap, but to the bath mat itself. No matter how hard I’ve tried, I still have about a square inch of adhesive that hasn’t come off after a few weeks of use. The blue foot prints are part of the bath mat, so that’s just fun.

How Thirsty Is This Bath Mat?

We’ve really put this thing to the test in our house. TJ takes his bath around 7:00 pm each night, and Tom and I generally shower either at 8:00 after he goes to bed or around 11:30 right before we go to bed. We all bathe in the same bathroom, so the cork has to soak up a lot of water.

Taking a shower an hour after TJ’s bath does not allow the cork enough time to dry thoroughly, but 3-4 hours usually gets it dry all the way through. The exception is if we forget to lean it up against the tub instead of leaving it flat on the floor. If left flat, the top will be dry, but the underside will still have wet spots.

For most people, this isn’t an issue. But since we shower together – because of my health issues, I need a spotter – we have two people who need a dry bath mat at about the same time. I don’t like stepping in wet footprints when I get out. The first night we used the bath mat, it had been an 8:00 shower, and water actually ran off the top of the cork because it couldn’t absorb any more after dealing with three dripping people in rapid succession.

But given time to dry between uses, this thing is great at sucking up water. It’s also naturally antibacterial, which means it’s not going to breed the same sort of gross germs a towel would.

  1. it’s not really little, but radiant heat flooring in the bathroom is my DREAM 🙂 thanks for the chance!

  2. I would absolutely love a new bathmat, I am tired of nasty rugs or towels that take forever to dry and just breed bacteria!

  3. I really can’t stand our bathmat right now, so this would be perfect!! I love the antibacterial nature of cork.

  4. An organizer would be helpful. I’ve seen a DIY on pinterest that uses a spice rack; one of these days I’ll make one and corral all those random items on the counter.

  5. Right now we use a bath towel as a mat so the cork mat would be a great improvement!

  6. Something to help get everything organized in a small, small bathroom with a family of four (and two are tween age daughters!).

  7. My current bathmat is Disney Princesses (thanks to Gramma) and I would love one that wasn’t necessarily meant for children 🙂

  8. oh yes for sure a bath mat would make our bathroom better as we just step on towls now when getting out of the tub so this would be swell, thank you!

  9. This would make things better in the bathroom. Stepping on towels can be tricky. I think this bath mat is so cute.

  10. This bath mat would be great for my son’s bathroom. They constantly have wet towels on the floor from taking a long bath. I would love to have this and save my washer and my poor body. 🙂
