I was contacted by a representative who wanted me to try out Repiderm from Bio-Scriptives. Since I’ve long-since realized that acne is not simply a teen problem, I was happy to try out a product that promised to deal with my unsightly blemishes

Skin care has always been a tricky thing for me. My skin is very sensitive, so overly harsh treatments tend to leave marks worse than what they were supposed to be dealing with. But I deal with breakouts quite often, and I have a very bad habit of doing exactly what you’re not supposed to do…pick and squeeze. (I know. Eww.) This leaves scars, and my face ends up quite a mess sometimes.

RepidermSo I got three bottles of Repiderm in the mail one day. They really wanted me to get a good feel for how it works, not just a “try it for a week” sample. I appreciated that. So I’ve been giving it a run for its money, and overall, I’m rather pleased with the results.

Repiderm Spot Treatments Zapped My Pimples

At first, I had some real problem spots to deal with. I made the mistake of picking at one of them before I remembered I had the Repiderm, and that was sore for about a week. But I tried it on a few other blemishes, and as long as I kept my hands away from them, they cleared up within 24-48 hours. The pimples that had already showed themselves usually went away overnight after applying the creme in the morning and before bedtime. The ones that were still under the skin when I discovered them got sucked to the surface in all of their ugliness overnight. But as long as I treated them and kept my hands away from them, they were usually gone by the next morning. For someone who usually makes a mess of her face for a week after the first sign of a poppable pimple, getting rid of one in two days is kind of a big deal.

Preventative Repiderm Too Much for My Sensitive Skin

Once I had my acne under control with successful spot treatments, I tried to “upgrade” to the recommended twice daily applications for preventative treatment. This actually worked well for about a week – which was good  timing, since it was the same week I went on national television. But now I’m developing some problems. The Repiderm formula claims to be non-drying, but with the winter weather already drying my skin, my poor face is getting irritated.

When I came downstairs this morning, my husband asked me if I was okay because I had two huge red marks on my face. I had two spots that needed to be treated, but the surrounding skin that got the excess amount of Repiderm did not react happily. I’ve since used witch hazel on a cotton pad to remove the excess creme, and the redness has gone away, but I think my face is trying to tell me that I can’t apply the creme to skin that isn’t actively breaking out anymore.

I don’t think this should be a problem for people who don’t have sensitive skin. Lord knows, I have my issues. For now, I’ll stick to my spot treatments, and maybe when summer arrives and brings with it oilier skin, I can again to prevent acne before it starts.

Repiderm Ingredients

I thought the list of ingredients in Repiderm was worth noting. The active ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide (4.4%), but check out the rest of the ingredient list:

Distilled Water, Aloe, Propylene Glycol, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Arginine HCI, Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Coleus Forskohlii Root Oil, Lemon Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Sodium Chloride, Fragrance, Xantham Gum, Allantoin, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Algae Extract, Althaea Officianalis Root Extract, Echinacea Angustifolia Extract, Chamomile Extract, Melia Azadirachta Seed Oil, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium EDTA, Methyl Nicotinate.

While not completely natural, there are some natural ingredients like aloe, lemon oil, tea tree oil, and eucalyptus oil that help the creme do its job. I’ve been using Melaleuca’s facial cleanser and toner with tea tree oil for years, and I feel it’s superior to other cleansers and toners I’ve tried that don’t have the antimicrobial properties of tea tree oil. It’s nice to see that Bio-Scriptives has incorporated beneficial natural ingredients into its product.
