Dear TJ,

You used to be terrified of the vacuum cleaner. This fear of the vacuum cleaner started when you were just a baby, and it lasted until a few months ago… maybe even until last month. You would scream and cry so much that we often had to make sure you were out of the room – out of the house, if possible – whenever we had to vacuum.

Last week, you made a mess at Grandma Debbie’s house, and she had you help her clean it up with the vacuum cleaner. You turned it on and helped her move it back and forth. And you laughed!

Last night, we had a family pizza picnic. But in order to do that, we had to clean up the living room… including a lot of crumbs from your snacks. You helped me turn the vacuum on and move it back and forth. It was a lot harder to get the floor clean with you helping, but it was so great that you wanted to help at all, instead of being afraid!

Of course, this means I have no more excuses about when I can and can’t vacuum… but I suppose that’s not really a bad thing. 😉

Love,
Mommy

  1. Yay for TJ! I didn’t like the vacuum either, when I was a kid.

Joe has an absolute joy for helping me vacuum, and I’m with you. It does make it harder. The dog, however, runs outside or cowers in fear. Joe believes this is hilarious, and wants to taunt the dog. It’s not very funny to me.

  2. my youngest too had a thing about vaccume cleaners – used to scream and carry on like a pork chop.. it all ends – as does the excuse for not getting round to tidying up.. sigh…. thanks for sharing this – made me smile and recmember my little one – stuff you forget…. you know? hugs
