Dear TJ,

You had a very hard time this week. Grandma Kitty went to Cape Cod for a much-needed vacation, so you went to Grandma Debbie’s house while Mommy and Daddy worked. Normally, this would be something that you love. However, it’s gotten a bit more complicated since Uncle Joe, Aunt Meghan, and your cousin Avery moved in with Grandma and Grandpa.

You did not like having to share with Avery – not sharing toys, not sharing Grandma Debbie’s attention. I called to have lunch with Grandma Debbie and Grandpa Joe on their anniversary on Tuesday, and you didn’t want to come into the restaurant because you wanted to have private time – lunch with just you and Grandma Debbie. You told her that you thought she didn’t love you anymore.

Grandma Debbie explained to you that she will always love you, and that her heart is big enough to love you and Avery. You broke her heart when you told her that you weren’t buddies anymore and drew pictures on your placemat that were smiley faces with big X’s over them. By the end of lunch, though, you seemed to accept that she does still love you, and that we all love you, and nothing is ever going to change that.

Families have a lot of room for love in their hearts. Just because new people enter our family, it doesn’t mean that you are loved any less. We will always love you, Pooks, and nothing will ever change that.

Love,

Mommy
