Have you heard about the We Blog Conference Focus Group at the Glenstone Lodge in Tennessee on May 16-18, 2010? I hadn’t until a week or two ago. The co-founders of the conference are 3 Boys and a Dog and The Post-It Place. Discovery is sponsoring the event and making it possible for members of the focus group to stay for free.

I would love to be a part of the focus group. Why? First  of all, I’ve never been to Tennessee. That may be a silly reason to want to go, but my grandpa (RIP) grew up in Tennessee, and it would be nice to get there at some point. I went to the Type-A Mom Conference last year and had a fabulous time. I learned a lot there, and I hope to learn more at next year’s conference as well as at BlogHer ’10. Since diversity in conferences and companions can only be beneficial to my growth as a blogger and as a person, I would love to attend this focus group. Small groups are good for me, since I have an anxiety disorder and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, as they help me develop a comfort zone with new people – making it easier for me to attend other conferences in the future. (Like this one, in 2011!)

What can I bring to the table? I am not only a mommy blogger, but I am a professional copywriter, editor, and blogger. I own Phenomenal Content, a copywriting company, which has a small staff of fabulous writers who are independent contractors. I’ve been vocal about how bloggers should be compensated for their efforts at the Type-A Mom blogger town hall meeting, and about how writers and independent contractors in general should be paid better. I make my living writing. I work closely with a handful of talented and successful Internet marketers who have taught me a lot about SEO and such. I’ve worked with Hallmark to send bereavement cards to @kristinebrite who lost her precious baby Cora and I’m putting together the Boobs For Anissa calendar to raise money for @AnissaMayhew‘s family as she continues to recover from her stroke.

I would like to talk with other bloggers about compensation, SEO, playing nice in the blogging community, positive social media use, and so many other things. We bloggers need to work together, and as a part of the focus group, I would like to help come up with ideas that will help us do just that!

Disclosure: The post was written as my entry to have Discovery pay for me to attend the We Blog Conference Focus Group.
