I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. TJ is growing up, as kids do, and some day, he’s not going to want to be known as the Cutest Kid Ever online. That day hasn’t come, but when it does, what should I do? Everything I have online is branded with the Cutest Kid Ever name. When he’s 13, it will just feel…off. So I know I’m going to want to eventually change the name.
But if I know it’s going to happen some day, why not make the move sooner rather than later? People know who I am at blog conferences, but it’s not like I’m an A-list blogger…or even a B-list blogger. Maybe I’m a C-list blogger. I don’t know. I do hope to grow more of a following. Would it not be better to rebrand before that happens, make the change before it affects too many people?
Additionally, I’ve had friends and former colleagues who didn’t want to click on any of my Facebook links because of the domain name. (I think it’s a sort of hipster thing. They don’t have kids, don’t want kids, and don’t want “CutestKidEver.org” in their Web history. I don’t know.) And I may have outgrown the name… Originally, I used this blog to record TJ’s life as a baby. That’s all it was….with never a thought of being more than a parenting journal. But now I do product reviews, I write about social media, and not everything I write really fits will with the “Cutest Kid Ever” image. And now I plan on writing more about Asperger’s…adult Asperger’s.
I have a new name in mind. But should I use it?
I could use thoughts…both for and against. Please comment!
