Cutest Kid Ever will soon be known as WELL in THIS House...

It’s happening. Cutest Kid Ever will be undergoing some changes very soon… I’m re-branding my blog under a new name: WELLinTHIShouse.com. The domain has been purchased, the social media identities reserved…I just have to get things ready behind the scenes before I make the switch official. (301 redirects, rearranging WordPress categories, that sort of thing…)

Cutest Kid Ever will soon be known as WELL in THIS House...

Why Not Cutest Kid Ever?

When I started this blog, it was because a lot of my childless friends on  LiveJournal were not interested in my gushing about my new baby boy, TJ. Instead of chronicling his first years on LiveJournal, I decided I would start a separate “mommy blog.” It was still a relatively new concept back then, in late 2005. A funny thing happened, though. Other people started visiting my blog. I met (virtually) other bloggers. My blog became about more than just TJ when I started writing about parenting issues in general. Then I started writing about things that interested me that had nothing to do with parenting…

Fast forward a few years, and I’m writing all sorts of reviews, hosting giveaways, and writing about social media. It doesn’t really fit with the image of “Cutest Kid Ever” that I’d started out with. I’ve been a little wary of some of the reviews I’ve written as far as that image goes – lingerie reviews, even if it’s tasteful lingerie – seem a little out of place when “Cutest Kid Ever” is plastered at the top of the page.

Why WELL in THIS House?

I could almost say it came to me in a dream, but I was really just ruminating while trying  to fall asleep. I was thinking of a series of posts I want to write about life with Asperger’s, and the phrase in our house kept popping into my head. So when I got the notion of re-branding, that’s the first thing I thought of. “In our house” was taken as a domain name, so I tried a few variations.

Well, in This House… encompasses pretty much everything I want it to. In this house, and on this blog, the things that matter to me are wide reaching. The parenting part isn’t going anywhere… my little man is turning 7 this summer, and he’s still the light of my life. But there is more to me (and my blog) than my son. Also, the acronym WITH seems nice and inclusive to me.

What’s Going to Change Here?

The changes I’ll be making to my blog are mostly cosmetic. I’m going to have a new logo. You’ll see a different URL in the address bar of your browser…but I’ll be redirecting traffic from the CutestKidEver.org domain, so your old links will still work. (I’d still appreciate it if anyone takes the time to change them to the new domain, though!) There’s nothing I’m currently writing about that I plan on not writing about in the future… But I may branch out to things I felt might have been too mature for my Cutest Kid Ever image.

My Twitter handle will be changing. My Pinterest ID will be changing, as well. (Same accounts, though, just new handles.) Facebook is going to make me start a new fan page, so I’ll be asking you for another “Like.” But it’s still me. I just want my blog/social media identity to fit more.

I’m still trying to decide on “flipping the switch” on the new domain before the Type-A Parent Conference or after. That’s the big decision now…
