I was looking up my blog stats the other day when I noticed that Quantcast had made the user demographics page a lot easier to read. I learned a bit more about you, my readers, and I thought I would share.
Most of you are female.
This does not surprise me, as this is a mommy blog, and I have many mommy blogger friends. (But thanks to those men who do stop by!)
Most of you are middle aged.
That’s Quantcast’s term… not mine. 35% of my readers are age 35-49. (Seriously? That’s what they consider middle aged?) Another 33% of you are age 18-34. And there’s a not-too-shabby 23% of you who are over the age of 50. Honestly? I’d call 50+ middle aged, not old, and I wouldn’t put a label on ages 35-49.
Most of you are Caucasian.
I’d really never thought about race as it relates to blogging, but 83% of you are white like I am. African-Americans and Hispanics make up another 6% of my readership each, followed by Asians at 3% and “other” at 2%. That 2%, by the way, is higher than the general Internet average. According to Quantcast.
Many of you have 2 or fewer kids.
This is also not a surprise, although the graphical breakdown tells more than that. It seems that 15% of you have children age 2 and under, 32% of you have children between the ages of 3-12, and 18% of you have children between the ages of 13-17. These percentages are all higher than the average Internet population.
Most of you earn a middle income.
Since we’re pretty middle class ourselves, this also makes sense to me. The income ranges between $30k-$60k and $60k-$100k each account for 29% of my readership. More of you make over $100k than make under $30k – but not by much.
Most of you are college graduates.
Well, aren’t you an educated bunch? 43% of you earned your undergraduate degree, while another 15% of you went on to obtain your graduate degree. The other 43% of you never graduated college. That adds up to 101%, so there must be some rounding involved here somewhere…
And just for fun… Some of the more interesting search queries you used to find me here recently:
- mother’s day gifts
- star wars party
- toddlers climbing out of crib
- fear of flies
- blogher 2010 parties
- autism acrostic
So that’s all about you! Are you one of my stereotypical readers? Or are you an outlier? I don’t care where you fall in the demographics – I’m grateful for each and every one of you. Thanks for stopping by!
Wow. I am all over the place on your statistics.
I am Caucasian, I have more than 2 kids and none under 4. My HOUSEHOLD income is middle class but on my own, I’m not. I DO NOT have a college graduate (drop outs rule! – Sorry. Had to do it) but I am middle age (Just arrived, thanks) and of course I am female.
Blog stats always make me giggle a little.
And you can tell that I’m not a college graduate because clearly by my comment above, I have no clue how to form a sentence. Yet, people pay me to do just that. 😉
