Tonight, Tom and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary with family and friends by renewing our vows. We had a lovely ceremony led by Jessie Blum-Gabriel of Eclectic Unions – someone I’ve actually known online for many years but never met until tonight. Having her as our celebrant was special because she remembers looking at the pictures from our wedding on my Web site all those years ago. The Internet is a funny place, bringing people together.

Christina and Tom - Vow Renewal Ceremony

We had an intimate group of under 20 people in attendance, people who mean a lot to both of us. We’d like to thank them for sharing in our special day. (We do regret that we couldn’t invite everyone we care about, because we would’ve needed a much bigger space!)

I’d like to share with you the vows I wrote and spoke aloud during the ceremony:

Ten years ago, there was nothing that could stop us from getting married. I’d been coughing up a storm for weeks, and you got food poisoning at our rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. But miraculously, I didn’t cough once during the ceremony, and you managed to stay upright through the whole thing. No one dared to tell me you were sick until after the ceremony was over. But although neither of us was feeling particularly healthy that day, it was one of the happiest days of our lives.

We’ve had a lot of other happy moments since then, and we’ve had a fair amount of not-so-happy moments, as well. But through it all, we’ve always had each other – and that’s what has always mattered.

You’ve helped me grow so much as a person because of your love. You put up with all of my little quirks, and you’ve seen me through some pretty dark times. And despite some teasing from family and friends, you’ve never stopped treating me like a princess, because that’s the kind of man you are. And I love you for that.

You’ve supported me through major career changes, and I’ve done the same for you. When I lost my job last year, you cheered me on as I decided to venture out on my own. I don’t think I could have been as successful if it hadn’t been for your support.

I love you more than anything in the world, except for TJ. You two mean everything to me, and I can’t imagine my life without you. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I want to grow old in a nursing home with you. I look forward to our 25th anniversary, our 50th, and with any luck, our 75th. I love you.

Happy anniversary, honey.
