Dear TJ,
We’ve always known that you’re smart. Maybe too smart! You showed us how much we’ve underestimated you this week.
You and Daddy have a special bedtime reading routine. He reads you three books every night. You have one book about Snoopy playing hockey that you really seem to like. A while ago, you started asking Daddy what the words said as he was reading, so he would point out each word with his finger.
A few nights ago, Daddy was reading you the Snoopy book again. You’ve read all of your favorite books together that you know many of them by heart. When Daddy asked you to read the last page of the book, you did. You pointed to each word as you read it… “Dogs don’t have knees!”
You’re three years old. One of the youngest in your preschool class, since you turned three at the end of August, right before school started. And you are starting to read. Oh sure, not everything… but there are a lot of words you can read now. Mommy and Daddy will have to be careful! You can also spell cat and dog off the top of your head… Our time being able to spell words so you don’t know what we’re talking about – it’s at a premium, and we won’t have much longer.
Love,
Mommy
