Dear TJ,

We had your birthday party last night. You turn four on Monday, but Uncle Josh is heading back to college today, and we didn’t want him to miss out. It was crazy. There were at least 20 people there, including the four kids – you, Gavin, Abby, and Roary. (You had a great time, but the party deserves an entire post of its own.)

TJ with his Nintendog after the partyOne of the presents you got was a Nintendog from Aunt Jillian. She told me she wanted to get you a dog, and since I said no to any real pets, she got you this one.

It was a hit. Oh sure, its bark can be as annoying as that of a real dog, but it doesn’t shed or poop, and it has an  off switch. 😉

You love this dog. We tried to sway you when you wanted to name it TJ, but you couldn’t be moved on the subject. So we’ve at least convinced you to refer to him as TJ the dog.

When you woke me up this morning when I heard you downstairs yelling, “I love you!” I thought you were shouting it to get me out of bed. But no, when I got downstairs, you told me that you were trying to get your dog to talk and wag his tail. But the dog was “sleeping” with the off switch, so I had to “wake him up” for you.

“He really loves me,” you told me. You kept hugging him and petting him and making him bark. It was so sweet. “He really loves me, Mommy. And I love him.”

It was almost enough to make me want to get you a real pet. Almost.

Love,
Mommy
