We’ve been attending a Mommy & Me class for a few months at Tumbling Tykes. TJ has never quite gotten the hang of participating in the class, which has been very frustrating for me. As the last session was wrapping up, Stacy let me know that a new class was starting up on Tuesday mornings, and she thought that TJ would do better in the smaller class. TJ’s Friday class was full and very busy.

Today was the first day of the new session and the new class. Stacy doesn’t teach this class; a college student named Liz does. TJ and two other girls were the only kids in class. Very different than what we’ve been used to!

I couldn’t interest TJ in joining the girls on the mat for the welcome song or the goodbye song, but he participated in everything else! It was unreal. Okay, so he didn’t participate the whole time, but I did get him to sit on the “bus” for a short time with the girls. He played in the water table washing the dishes with the girls, and he made a fantastic mess with the “Slickers” crayons trying to draw a picture of his family. It took a little persuasion to get him out of the ball pit to play with the pom poms, but once he came over, he had a great time shaking. And his favorite part is the sand box, so that wasn’t a problem! It was the best class we’ve had so far.

I’m very hopeful about our classes now. I think he’ll get so much more out of them now that there aren’t so many other noisy kids to be a distraction!
