We weren’t sure how TJ would take it when we put up the Christmas tree, but he loved it! Every morning when we come down the stairs, he says, “Christmas tree lights!”

I didn’t mind him touching the tree, as long as he was gentle. He liked to point at the lights, and I’d ask them what color they were. After a while, he stopped trying to answer me, and instead started repeating, “What color is this?”

We didn’t want him taking ornaments off the tree, but one morning, he said, “Play with the dragon? Play with the dragon!” And he proceeded to climb up three stairs and point to the ornament on the back of the tree that he wanted – one of my husband’s ugly Godzilla ornaments. It was plastic, so I took it off and let him play with it. I ended up needing to cover its speaker with tape because it roared so loud when he pressed the button.

TJ also decided that he wanted to help decorate the tree. He could be found trying to put his Legos and his wooden blocks in the tree branches. I was surprised to find how high some of them had gotten; apparently, he threw some higher up than he could’ve reached.

We took the tree down tonight because we just don’t have room for his new art desk and the other toys he’s gotten with the tree taking up a good portion of the room. I’m wondering how upset he’s going to be in the morning when he finds there are no Christmas tree lights to turn on.
