Drumming to kick off the volunteer announcement event. These guys are good! Rapping janitors? LOL. Give a Day Get a Disney Day promotion rap. 🙂 We have friends who gave a day by making blankets for Haiti. They’ll be here in Disney World the day after we leave.

Clay Shoemaker, 2010 Disney Ambassador is taking the stage.

Largest sculpture of canned food hidden by balloons on stage.

Volunteer families parading in. Some couldn’t make it because of the snow, but they got recognized on the video screens. Some of the other guests (media folks?) giving the families a standing ovation. We #DisneySMMoms are tweeting and blogging though… no disrespect meant!

LOL… I just noticed the teleprompter on the projection screen near the sound board.

Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts… introduced by Kermit the Frog. Canopy/can of peas pun. Bad. My dad would appreciate it. Fozzie writes his jokes. Hehe.

“What will you celebrate? Today, we’re here to celebrate you… and other volunteers everywhere.”

Celebrating volunteerism is their goal for 2010. Goal to reach 1,000,000 volunteers in one year. Added up, could build the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty in one day. Giving free tickets to Disney Parks to volunteers around the country.

Walt Disney himself valued volunteerism. Cast members have donated 5.5 million hours in service over the last 25 years. (I hope that number is right.) Most recently, helping people in Haiti.

Six weeks into Give A Day promotion, 600,000 people have already participated! More than halfway to the 1 million person goal. In JUST SIX WEEKS.

Hands On network has helped. Largest volunteer network in the United States. Partners in this effort. Co-Founder and CEO of Points of Light Institute Michelle Nunn is on stage now.

Another round of applause for the volunteer families.

More than 10,000 volunteer organizations have joined in the effort. 8 tons of canned food collected in Jacksonville. Project Linus will receive 60,000 handmade blankets in the next 5 months from Disney volunteers.

Many of these volunteers are serving for the first time. Very inspiring.

Over 115,000 individual cans in the structure. Certified by Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest structure of canned food. Started building it on Sunday. Represents 170,000 meals for needy in Miami.

Here it comes!

Ty Pennington is giving us a big, dramatic reveal! HUGE cheer! So many cell phone snapshots!

Ty personally thanks the volunteer families, especially the kids. Thanks for making a difference! Challenge everyone in your communities to follow your example.

Costume characters coming out to help. Mickey Mouse gave Ty his megaphone.

Unveiled! This is amazing! The balloons drifted up to the ceiling. Huge castle, Mickey, Donald, Pluto. Spells out Celebrate Volunteers. I couldn’t get a good picture, but @theangelforever did. She promised to send it to me.

Very impressive. This will only be on display for a limited time before the food goes to help feed needy families. Good job, guys!

Disclosure: I paid $350 to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration in Walt Disney World. Included in my conference fee: our room at the Polynesian Resort, Park Hopper tickets, the conference sessions, most of our meals, and a few little extra surprises. That being said, my opinions are my own, and my blogs posts about the experience are my honest opinion.
