I clicked on Robert Jordan’s blog at Dragonmount today on a whim. What I saw took my breath away. The author of my favorite book series, and a great man besides, died today at 2:45pm.

He fought valiantly against amyloidosis, but alas, such a sinister disease is no match for even the greatest of warriors. My heart and sympathy lies with his wife, Harriet. I cannot imagine the pain she feels right now. I didn’t know him, personally, only through his writing, and I’m fighting back tears here as I type. Like my grandfather did when he died last year, his last words were to tell his wife he loved her.

I am trying to subdue the selfish question in the back of my mind… will we ever get to learn how the series ends? I wonder if Harriet has enough of his notes to put anything together to publish…

But I do not wish her to be troubled with selfish questions from fans like myself for quite some time. She needs to be allowed to grieve in peace. In time, announcements will be made as to the fate of our heroes.

And I can’t fight the tears any longer, so I will end with this. Long live the Dragon.
