I’m not going to BlogHer this weekend. Why? Because at registration time, I had recently lost my job and didn’t know how I could ever afford to pay all of our bills, let alone fly to Chicago for a blogging conference. Now that I’m wildly successful with my writing business, Phenomenal Content LLC, I found myself without a ticket because the conference was sold out! And while I may be incredibly jealous of all of the women who get to meet each other in person this weekend, I’m pretty happy to be at home with my family. So I thought I’d write about the 10 best reasons why I’m exciting about staying home.

  1. By writing about staying home this weekend, I have a chance to win $100 for a Non-BlogHer scholarship! For that to happen, I need you to comment. Please leave me a comment below. Feel free to tell me what you had for lunch or the cute thing your kid just did. Just please leave me a comment!
  2. I get go to a great local mom networking event at Tumbing Tykes on Friday night. I’m bringing TJ along. The kids get to play with each other and have a little pizza party while the moms connect with other business moms!
  3. I get to sleep in my comfy king size bed every night. No strange hotel rooms for me!
  4. I get to kiss my husband and son whenever I want.
  5. I’ll be getting my groceries as per my usual Saturday routine. Four generations go shopping together each week: me, TJ, my mom, and my grandma. Family tradition wins!
  6. No jet lag.
  7. I can change into my pajamas pretty much whenever I want. No fancy parties to dress up for!
  8. Homemade dinner. Tom (hubby) made his special gourmet cheeseburgers tonight. Tomorrow night? I might make calzones. (With dough made in our bread machine.)
  9. Another family tradition: we’ll be spending Sunday with my parents and Tom’s mom, having “Sunday dinner” around noon and hanging out at my parents’ house for half the afternoon.
  10. Sleeping in! Tom gets to sleep in on Saturday morning, and I get to sleep in on Sunday! No getting up early for conference sessions or early morning  flights.

If you’re at BlogHer, please comment to help me win the contest. Why? Because you’re doing something awesome already. Don’t I deserve a little bit of awesome, too?

If you’re not at BlogHer, please leave me a  comment, too. Maybe you just don’t feel like making your own post for the contest, or maybe you want to (hint hint) comment with a link to your own contest post so we can scratch each other’s backs. (15 winners means we can both win, right?)

And just for the fun of it, why not head on over to my Best Mom T-Shirt Giveaway and get yourself an extra entry for commenting here!

  1. Family time rocks! I’m sitting in a session at Comic Con waiting for my son’s turn at the mic. He’s going to ask some obscure game related question of the panel that will be Greek to me, but I’m thrilled to be here with him – and so proud that he’s not afraid to do so (there’s over 1000 people in this session – he’s only 13). Enjoy your weekend 🙂

  2. I hope whoever is supposed to win something from this comment wins…whtvr. This is my comment so thank you for taking the time to read this…well, you reading this does nothing for me, so I guess I have no reason to thank you. Irregardless, yeah, happy family time whoo >.>

  3. There is nothing I like more than a good peaceful trip to my house 🙂

Sometimes I prefer it alone, but that’s only after my brothers have been really annoying.

  4. Those are all great reasons, you are the best list-maker I have ever seen on this site. You got a good deal!

  5. Those are all fantastic reasons to stay home with your family, but the one I’m most jealous of is the part where you mention calzones made with homemade dough!! Lucky!!

    1. KoL did cross my mind while writing this up, Journe, but it was number 11! You know, since Jick made 11 (it’s not even funny!) such a special number in the Kingdom of Loathing. KoL is definitely #11 on my list… especially since so many of my fellow gamers came over here to my blog to support me. <3

  6. Sounds like you’re in for a fun weekend. King size beds at home are far better than anything you’d get at a hotel, and those homemade meals sound delicious. Have a good time with your family!

  7. Helping you out. Now will you please come up with an emergency to get me away from my out-laws? Seriously, they are in town for the entire weekend. They have never stayed in town for more than 4-5 hours and this could really be rough. Calgon really needs to take me away. Double insult to injury with missing BlogHer.

  8. Good Luck Christina! I just want you to know that as of three weeks ago, I’m in the same situation, and believe it or not, seeing as how you put your little company together gave me motivation to set up my own little consulting firm. It looks like it’s going to pay off. You rock, Thanks and again Good Luck!

  9. I just got back from a great vacation where we visited Yellowstone national park. I got to see Ol Faithful, swim in a hot spring, and see buffalo from like 3 feet away. It was great!

  10. I get to see my son not this weekend but next weekend, perfect reason to stay home. He will be reunited with his cat and the two guys (he and I) will catch up on the things he’s done in the last month while visiting his g’parents. A nice quiet weekend for us to catch up before he heads back to school.

  11. Does your son like to sing? My daughter sang her bedtime songs with me last night and it was great! Even if Amazing Grace got the filk-like line, “I was blonde, but now I see…”

  12. I’m having a BLT for dinner

Also, I’m excited to stay home this weekend because I get to play with every Atari system made!

  14. This is the last weekend of the last summer my step daughter spends with us. At our home. Before she turns 18 and is off to college. It is very bittersweet. Watching my younger children at the beginning of their childhood & my older stepkids at the end of their childhood. I am so incredibly happy to be spending this weekend with all of my children and my husband

  15. You know, I’m glad you’re not at BlogHer, because if you had been, you likely wouldn’t be coming to Type-a-Mom, and you know that’s gonna be so much more fun, because you’ll be here with me! (I managed to be able to go too, by the way.) LOL

It’s Bele Chere weekend in Downtown Asheville this weekend. Some locals like it, others, like myself, loathe it with a passion. You’ll see the streets of downtown when you’re here and wonder how in the hell we cram hundreds of thousands of people in all weekend. LOL

  16. Here’s your comment, sweetie. I love your reasons for staying home. I’m kind of excited – BlogHer is in NYC next year. I can take the train in, and still sleep in my own bed at night! Of course, I’ll miss the crazy midnight parties….hmm.

  17. Hi Again? Tooth Fairy flying by again ~ As you realize I like to mix my words with facts & fantasy at Toothfairycyberspace. So now I will share with you that my family and I visited a place today called “The Flying Beaver” …It’s true, believe it! I have a fascination with things that ~FLY~ “wings & things” so it was a perfect outing! Watching winged float planes taking off from the water and flying away on a nice hot, sunny day. Their noisy propellers were spinning round and round like high speed windmills. ( Mine flutter very quietly ) My family enjoyed their beverages while eating yummy chicken ~WINGS~
    Honest? It’s the twooth !

Ladybug Luck in winning your prize!
    Good-bye, gotta ~FLY~

  19. You go on losing the job and getting your own business up and booming! I want you to win but Blog Her was great and even though your reasons to stay home were great, there was a pajama party so #7 isn’t really ummm accurate. 🙂 Good luck!!!

  20. i practiced with my band saturday and was greeted an hour after waking sunday with a 12 pack, bottle of vodka, and bottle of jaeger. i remember about 4 hours total out of those two days.

  21. So was your weekend everything you hoped? I got spend mine with my hubby, but I’ve been fighting off a flu bug, so no steak dinner for me.

  22. I think it’s cool that you would rather spend time with your family than go to some far-away contest. 🙂

  23. I also think that it’s cool that my mom’s best friend also decided to skip out on a big event to stay with her family.

  24. Gourmet cheeseburgers and calzones!? omg you are making me hungry lol

Good luck with the contest! I’m entered too but have less than 25 comments I do believe:(
