Before I went to Disney, I had the pleasure of hosting a Nutella breakfast party, thanks to Mommy Parties. I’d received a giant box filled with Nutella goodies, including a nice big jar of Nutella hazelnut spread. Since my house isn’t big enough for more than a handful of people at a time, my mother-in-law was kind enough to let me use her place while she was visiting her other grandson in Michigan.

Our Nutella Party Spread

Doesn’t that look yummy? I bought all of the food goodies to go with the Nutella, but Nutella did send some fun swag for us as well… including some truly awesome spreaders that are rounded at the bottom so you can scrape every last bit of hazelnut goodness from the bottom of the jar. We also got some recipe cards, coupons, samples, and other fun things for our goodie bags.

My favorite way to eat Nutella? On graham crackers with sliced strawberries on top:

I have to confess… I bought a bunch of whole grain goodies (pitas, bagel thins, etc.) for the breakfast party, but no one was really interested in them. We were all huge fans of eating Nutella with strawberries and slices of Granny Smith apple. Jillian from Whatchamagifts learned that she loves Nutella on graham crackers, a combination she’d never tried before. Linda is now a Nutella convert – she’d never had it before! Now she loves dipping whole strawberries in Nutella. Better than just plain chocolate-covered strawberries! Sandra from The Journey Mom was  kind enough to pose for me with her Nutella-dipped apple slices.

Sadly, not many of my pictures of my Nutella party guests came out because I forgot my camera and only had my phone. Only Sandra’s picture was salvageable. (The rest of you lovely ladies who didn’t want your pictures taken lucked out!)

So we all loved the taste of Nutella, but I think that the promos talking about using Nutella as a part of a healthy breakfast are a bit overblown. The first two ingredients are sugar and palm oil, THEN hazelnuts. (Although there are at least 50 hazelnuts in each jar of Nutella.) Yes, you can put Nutella on healthy whole grain foods in order to get your family to eat their whole grains and fiber, but the Nutella itself is really more of a treat. I’d happily eat it straight out of the jar as a snack, but I know I should put it on something healthy to make myself feel less guilty about it.

Licking the Nutella off the spreader

Fine. So I licked the spreader clean. Can you blame me?

Thanks to Nutella and Mommy Parties for the fun. Some of us learned new ways to enjoy Nutella, and some learned to love it for the first time!
