We’re still learning new details about the horrific school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. As I type this, 26 people are dead. 18 of them children. They went to Sandy Hook Elementary School this morning, like they always did. Their parents put them on the bus or dropped them off. Maybe they were thinking about Hanukkah tonight or Christmas coming up. The kindergartners probably had circle time, maybe sang a song. And then… the unthinkable happened.

My prayers are with those who were lost, the kids who lived through this, the adults who did their best to protect the kids when it was happening, and of course the families and the entire Newtown community.

TJ is still in school right now. He doesn’t get off the bus for another two hours. He is supposed to spend the afternoon with his grandma today, but I will be meeting him at the bus stop to hug him very tightly before he goes with her.

Hug your kids. Tell them you love them every chance you get. We don’t know how long any of us have. Cherish every moment.
