Children's Claritin

I’m working with Children’s Claritin to share some allergy tips this fall. They sent me a back to school “survival kit” and a list of things to share with you to help deal with your kids’ allergies. I’m happy to be working with them, because Children’s Claritin came to our rescue during the Family Forward Retreat, when TJ’s outdoor allergies were wreaking havoc on his ability to enjoy himself at Universal Orlando Resort. We had to leave the opening night Harry Potter party early because he felt so miserable, but once we made sure to give him his medicine each morning before hitting the parks, he had a ball! I just wish we’d thought of it the day we flew in.

Back to School Allergy Tips

I had a list of tips provided to share with you, but I’m putting them in my own words.

  1. Keep Children’s Claritin on hand. It’s the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand! (You can get a coupon for Children’s Claritin on their website.)
  2. Building a strong immune system is important, so be sure that your child takes a multivitamin as part of his daily routine.
  3. Keep your curtains open during the day, because mold doesn’t like sunlight!
  4. Most pillows are magnets for dust mites, bacteria, and allergens, so keep your child’s pillow clean, and replace when necessary.
  5. When you do the laundry, make sure to take it out of the washing machine right away. Mold can grow when wet clothes sit in the washer. (I’m bad about this. I’ve had to re-wash loads before, adding white vinegar to help kill the nasty things that grew and started to smell.)
  6. Pay attention to pollen counts, and limit outdoor time on dry, windy days when the pollen count is high.
  7. Have your kids take their baths and showers at the end of the day instead of in the morning, so they can wash away the dirt and allergens from the day. (TJ has always bathed at night, so this is a no-brainer for us.)
  8. Send your kids to school with a bottle of water to keep them hydrated. Drinking lots of clear fluids can help flush out the body and get rid of toxins.
  9. Try to plan outdoor activities for later in the day, since peak pollen production generally takes place in the morning.

Do you have any allergy tips that work well for your family? Let me know!
