Christmas Card
I’m not entirely sure who started the whole idea of “Christmas in July,” but when I was asked to write about this particular theme for Storkie via Global Influence, the first thing that popped into my head was how I completely forgot to send out Christmas cards last year.

Have you ever been “that mom?” You start getting all of the nice Christmas cards in the mail from friends and family shortly after Thanksgiving, and you keep telling yourself that you need to remember to get your cards. Maybe you buy them and forget to send them out. (That’s what I did in 2009.) Or maybe you never even get around to buying them. (That was Christmas 2010.)

Then you see your friends at holiday parties, and you get that expectant look when you first arrive. It’s the “where’s my card?” look. After all, they sent you one of their photo cards featuring a picture of their family perfectly posed next to a Christmas tree. You didn’t reciprocate? You know they’re all wondering if you handed out cards to other people and just snubbed them, or if you just fail at being a parent when it comes to this particular social grace.

This year, I hope to do better. I’m wondering if I should buy and address my cards now. I’m just worried that I would lose them before Christmastime comes, and then I’d be back to square one. Because really, I’d lose my head if it wasn’t screwed on so well.

So what to do? Is there anyone else out there who has “issues” with sending out cards who would be willing to make a Christmas card pact with me? You prod me to make sure I send out my cards, and I return the favor by badgering you to send out yours?

I really don’t want to have to make the Facebook post again this year that says, “I’m sorry, but I completely forgot to send out Christmas cards. It’s not that I forgot your card. I forgot everyone’s cards.”

  1. Hi Christina,

I had the same problem for YEARS. As a busy mom of 3, running a home based business while working full time, I can’t worry about these things. But I did feel guilty not sending them out.

A friend introduced me to a company which I’ve used for the last few years. I imported my entire address list and I can now send out cards (schedule them to send whenever) for birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, or just because.

It has helped me to stay on top of those important events and not get overwhelmed by the whole Christmas card adventure. I create one card with a picture of the kids on the cover or inside and a message in my own handwriting gets automatically personalized with the recipients names, the envelopes are addressed, stamped and mailed for me in only a few minutes each year. I can also send gifts and gift cards from the send out cards system as well.

I also like that it’s affordable, and cheaper than regular greeting cards. I don’t want to spam your blog with a link, but if you’re interested, send me an email. 🙂

    Heather
